Cooper & Son
Cooper & Son is one of the oldest funeral directors in Sussex. No surprise then that legacy is important to us. Located in Heathfield, Lewes, Seaford, and Uckfield, we are here to help you at a difficult time.
Although founded as R Jarvis in 1710, in Cross in Hand, Heathfield, our current name came a little later, as the family took work as wheelwrights and undertakers, operating from Rose Cottage in Uckfield in 1856.
Our charming Rose Cottage is still every bit as beautiful as in 1856. The site was recently granted a Sussex Heritage Trust Award for the bespoke stained-glass window that feature in our visitors’ room.
At Rose Cottage, and our other locations, you’ll meet one of our experienced funeral directors, Damian Norman, Emma Tipler or Nick Skilton, all of whom work tirelessly to ensure that the Cooper & Son name remains synonymous with quality in the local area.

I started working for CPJ Field in November 2011. My role started as a Funeral Service Team Member or what was commonly known at the time, a Chauffer Bearer. This gave me a wonderful insight into the funeral industry and made me realise I wanted to learn more. In July 2015 I moved to Cooper & Son in Lewes as a trainee Funeral Director and since then I have achieved the Diploma in Funeral Arranging & Administration in 2017 and the Diploma in Funeral Directing in 2020. Looking after the families that call on us to guide them through one of the worst periods of their lives gives me immense satisfaction and drives me to make each funeral perfect in every way.
I relax by going to the gym at least 5 times a week, reading and spending time with my own family and watching local football, especially my son's team.

I first came into the funeral profession in September 2017 and joined the company as a Funeral Arranger. After only six months, the opportunity came up for a Trainee Funeral Directors role based in Uckfield and I jumped at the chance. I was fortunate enough to get the position and have loved every day of my working life ever since.
I was very lucky to get the opportunity to spend time with my colleagues across the company and draw from their experiences and advice, which I have put into practice over the last 5 years when taking care of my own families.
I completed my diploma in Funeral Arranging in December 2020 and currently working towards completing my Diploma in Funeral Directing by September 2023.
The responsibility of taking care of our families during their darkest hours is not something that I take for granted. It is a real privilege to be able to offer support, guidance and advice when people need it the most.
In my spare time, I love reading, going out for dinner with friends and taking long walks across the Sussex Downs.

I have enjoyed working as a funeral arranger for over 10 years. I enjoy being supportive and helpful to all the families who choose us to make their experience as easy as possible at their worst times. I find this role very rewarding. I have been fortunate to be the Community Champion for the area which means I meet lots of people in the local area. In my spare time, I like to be in my greenhouse, sowing seeds, watching them grow, planting them out, nurturing them and relaxing in a beautiful garden full of colour all summer.

I have been working as a Funeral Arranger for 2 years at the beautiful Rose Cottage. I love to support my families through some of the most difficult times of their lives. It is my wish to ensure I provide the utmost practical and emotional support in whatever situations may arise. I am fully qualified in health and social care with many years of experience in the domestic support sector.
In my spare time I love going on adventures with my dogs, listening to heavy metal and I am an avid fan of fantasy and Sci-fi.

I started at Cooper & Son in January 2018 and completed my Cert FAA in 2019. I am Lewes born and bred, and many of the families that we look after are known to me. Seeing a familiar face at a time of loss can be very comforting and this is something that in turn helps to make my job feel so worthwhile. It is a unique job, and one that carries great responsibility, but I cannot imagine doing anything else. I work with a great team of people, which undoubtedly helps.
My spare time is mainly spent looking after the grandchildren and gardening, especially on our allotment, hard work but a tonic for the soul! My other passion is history, having obtained my degrees at Sussex University as a mature student at the grand old age of 40! My other loves are my 5 cats…yes 5, and Lewes Bonfire. I am a member of the Southover Bonfire Society, one of seven societies that take to the roads of Lewes every November 5th.

I fell in love with Lewes when I moved here over 40 years ago. My children went to Southover school and then onto Priory, and I soon became part of the community. I am fortunate to work with an amazing team in Lewes and have found the work both interesting and rewarding.
My many interests are music, the arts, design, tennis, and gardening.

I have been working for Cooper & Son at Seaford for 25 years. I have worked in other clerical positions prior to my time here, but for me being a Funeral Arranger gives me the satisfaction that you do not get in other workplaces, by being able to give support to the families who contact us. I also look after the Monumental Masonry, which is of special interest to me. Outside of work I like to garden, walk and crafting.

I have been working for Cooper & Son for two and a half years. I feel very fortunate, as I now live and work in Seaford. I am able to meet a variety of local people and give them the support they need through a difficult time. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, and gardening and I try to keep myself fit by walking and running. I like to relax in the company of friends with a good bottle of wine.

I started as a funeral arranger in September 2023. I have quickly found this is the role is a perfect fit for me as I love to help families in their time of need. I find it very rewarding to try and make things feel a little easier for families at one of the most difficult times for them. Adding personal touches to every funeral to make them unique for each person is something I take pleasure in organising with each family.
In my time away from work I study Classical history and ancient Latin language. I enjoy long walks all around Sussex with my husband and children.
