We currently have a position for a Funeral Service Team Member (Chauffeur/Bearer) to join our team at Deric Scott in Bournemouth. We require a very special person to join our team dedicated to serving families at one of the most difficult times in their lives.

You will provide support to Funeral Directors, helping with all matters concerning funeral provision. Acting as a key support, this role is suitable for those who enjoy variety and flexibility and would be keen to contribute to all aspects of the business, from attending funerals, to chauffeuring, to collecting and preparing coffins prior to funerals.

Job Description

With flexible work options, this is a full-time, 39 hour a week role, in which it may be necessary to assist or cover for other colleagues from time to time, including possible out of hours duties.

  • Previous relevant experience is preferred, but not essential
  • Must hold a valid driving license
  • Happy to work flexibly in a small team
  • Be prepared to work with smart appearance, with no visible tattoos or piercings

Key Responsibilities

Day to day, the successful applicant’s responsibilities may include:

  • Attendance at funerals, including driving vehicles, maintaining vehicles, and bearing coffins on the shoulder.
  • Removal of the person who has died from their place of death to our premises in a seemly and dignified manner.
  • Checking and maintaining the mortuary register.
  • Collection and preparation of coffins prior to funerals including fitting out and engraving nameplates.
  • Preparation of the person who has died for presentation in the Chapel of Rest.
  • To prepare graves and plots for ashes interments, including the removal and replacement of memorial tablets.
  • Keeping the premises of CPJ Field clean and tidy. Specific areas for attention are the mortuary areas, preparation rooms, fridge areas, the chapels, the workshops, the arranging offices, reception areas, and upstairs offices.
  • Willing and able to assist with any other duties which arise on a day-to-day basis, including being available on a 24-hour call-out system in accordance with the local rota agreements for which you will receive an additional payment.
