While trawling through the net for information about old friends, I was saddened to learn of Jeff's death. I was a friend, both at school and university. I have very clear memories of him and his parents. He was of course brilliant academically but I also remember as someone of unfailing good humour, accompanied by a sometimes quirky sense of humour that it was virtually impossible to deflate. Rest in peace Jeff, I'm sorry we lost touch.

To Yerffej Revilo

So sorry I missed you. I've always remembered your birthday given that you were 13 days older than me and the oldest one in our class at Haydn Road Junior School. In recent years I've been able to Google you and discover that you became a clearly well-loved GP. I'm not surprised. I well remember visiting you at your house on Cresta Gardens soon after we had moved to different secondary schools. You showed me some cultures you were brewing in your airing cupboard in petri dishes on blood agar somehow inveigled from Nottingham University. You said you had sniffed one of them and had become ill but didn't dare tell the doctor what you thought was the true cause. I don't think I ever met you again after that as we went our separate ways with new friends at our new schools. A pity. I should have liked to say hello again.
