Roger and I first met when we were aged four. We were, for each other, the closest possible childhood friends for more than a decade, but lessening in our late teens, as our careers and lifestyles began to diverge, and after my 1979 move away from Brighton. But we remained in touch, and I was honoured when Roger asked me to assist with the arrangements for his father's funeral in 2017. Roger's death brings our friendship to a tragic conclusion, but leaves me with many wonderful memories of our times together - as children and more recently. They are memories that I will retain for the rest of my days. RIP

Heather and I met Roger years ago through the Blue Plaque Committee of thee Brighton & Hove Council. Our building became the only building in the City, so far at least, to sport two blue plaques: one for Vesta Tilley (of Burlington Bertie fame) and the other to Dame Clara Butt (opera singer). We enjoyed Roger's hospitality at many a happy dinner at Montpellier Hall as well as his Summer and Christmas parties and, through him, events at the Sussex Heritage Trust. His illness and sudden death came as a real shock and we will do all we can to support his work as the founder of the Brighton & Hove Heritage Commission. RIP Roger
