Howard and I met as solicitor and clients in 1987, I was a naive 34 year old, when I bought my shop in Leek and Howardwould have been 38 but much wiser than his years. Over the following 25 years we had developed such a good working relationship that I would be proud to call him my friend. Throughout the years he helped solve many legal issues and problems that I encountered in Leek and Howard always managed to resolve them with his calm professional attitude. I have never met such a kind compassionate and exceptional person in my life and will always be grateful for his guidance in all matters. It is with sorrow and sadness that I heard of his passing from Liz but I shall always have a warm feeling that I had the privilege to meet one of life's true gentlemen. My family sends condolences to all his family and friends. Love and kind wishes from Davinder and Ramnique Mandair

Howard was my last remaining relative and I am deeply saddened that he is now no longer with us. We were cousins on his mother Hilda’s side, the Hooker family, and he was nearly three years my junior. Sadly, we saw little of each other and communicated only sporadically. But when we did it was always good to hear from him - the last time about three years ago – he was usually chatty and whimsical and kept us up to date with news of the family. The last we saw of him was at my sister Sylvia’s funeral in 2009 and before that it was at Hilda’s funeral. We would occasionally meet up when we were children, in Leek or Winchester and one holiday at the family caravan in Beresford Dale after my father died and we flew model aeroplanes (usually into the trees where, unfortunately, we had to leave the pieces). When my mother Doris moved temporarily back to Leek in the mid-1970s we saw a bit more of Howard, Faye and the family, who were always most welcoming and hospitable. But distance was always an issue and our lives moved in different directions, ours north to Glasgow and his south to Bournemouth. However, we had a shared interest in William Morris’s work in Leek and a bit in our shared family history, especially our grandfather, Major Arthur Hooker. Unfortunately, we never followed it up. Our thoughts are with Katya, Michelle and Hayden and Claire, Katie and all the grandchildren and we wish them all the strength to see this sad time through.

I will always remember Howard with great fondness... he was a true gentlemen and a very wise counsel, over many years, providing legal advice to my family and then later myself. He was a well respected member of the Leek Community and I am sure will be sadly missed by many people. We send our heartfelt condolences to the whole family.
With Kindest Regards,
Karen & Nigel Humphreys.
