Our Darling Sister Leila, look what you have done: You have left us much too soon, with shattered hearts, but with beautiful memories of a life well-lived for sustenance.

I have been re-living our formative years in Guyana, remembering your beauty, talent, feistiness, refusal to conform, the occasional locking horns with Ma, and your impact on the community. The joy we took in all the celebrations from Phagwah, last day of school, the races, Diwali, Teerat at the beach, to Christmas and New Year.

My consolation is that you are resting on the bosom of Mother Lakshmi and is soaring in the heavens
like your unforgettable singing voice. May Her light shine on you always!

Love you forever. Rest in eternal peace.

On a sad occasion as the parting of a very dear person, we often reflect on the impact they have made on your life. Leila (Ladidi) has had a profound influence on my life commencing 1973 when I came over to the U.K. from Guyana to further my studies.
She provided both financial and family support to me during those difficult years when I was trying to adapt to the U.K. culture and also, keeping up with my studies.
She also introduced me to my wife Dee and we have now been married for 44 happy years.

I shall be eternally grateful to Ladidi for being there in my early years in the U.K. and I pray for her soul to attain a peaceful and happy place in Heaven🙏🙏❤️❤️

With Sympathy, I am saddened to hear of the passing of our dear friend. Leila. We were High School friends before she left for the UK to further her studies in Nursing. We used to have lunch at their home during our school days. She was dearly loved and admired for her singing to raise funds for her school.
You will surely be missed. May your soul rest in eternal peace. My sincere condolences.

Your friend
Shanti

I first met Leila at Rose Hall High School over 60 years ago. We were just getting into our teenage years. It was fun walking to school, talking and laughing all the way.
She was the Nightingale of Guyana in the early sixties. With her melodious voice she was singing at our school concerts, on National Radio and coming first in competitions. She was a beauty too with her long, wavy hair.
We went separate ways when she left for England to further her studies.
30 years later we reunited. I went to spend some time with her. We had so much fun going places every day.
Leila was always loving and caring. I cherish my memories of her.
She will always be remembered.
My condolences to her siblings and husband Peter.
Goodbye my dear friend. It’s sad to see you go.
Some day we will meet again.

When I came to England in 1969, there were very few relatives and friends, if any.
As students, your relatives and friends were the people you trained with or the people you worked with, most of whom were life long friends. Some though you did not see often but when you did meet , the deep bond was there. The memories live on.
I had the opportunity to meet Leila in 1971 when I worked at Smallfield Hospital where she was working as a Staff nurse on the Surgical Ward. She took us under her watch and care for us like her younger siblings. She was an elder sister to me. On my days off, I was always welcomed at her home as if it were mine. I cooked what I wanted and had fun time with lots of jokes and laughter. Even at sad times we were together.
Leila played an important part in my early days in England. She was definitely one of those friends where time and distance did not exist. The special bond was there. The memories live on.
As she transcends this body, I am thankful for her part in my life and I pray for peace for her.

As we say our goodbyes today, my thought are with the family and friends: to Peter, to Roger, Drups, Nadia, Ricky and family.
Also, to the rest of the family, some of whom I have not met and to all others.
Peace be with you Leila OM SHANTI, SHANTI< SHANTI

So sorry to hear of Leila's passing from my dear friend Mrs. Drupatie Ramtej. As a new Nursing Student from T&T, I first met Leila in 1971 at Smallfield Hospital where she was a Senior Nurse. Even though I live in Canada for many years, memories of Leila remains. She was a good mentor to Student Nurses. I will always remember her laugh and her hospitality at her home in Horley. May her soul rest in peace. My sincere condolences to her family. May you find peace and comfort in this difficult time.

For my Dearest sister, Tiger.(Leila)
As the oldest in the family, I have numerous pleasant, funny and treasured memories of you, especially when we were together in Diana Orchestra. As your personal body guard, I had to protect you from the overwhelming fans in the large crowds that pay to see you sing.
They wanted to reach out to the Superstar, the singing Nightingale. You were always the main attraction and without you, the Diana Orchestra would not have existed.
Rest in Peace my Dear Sister.
The Angels are waiting for you to join them.
Gone, but not forgotten.
Love always

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

Mumzie (always your babby)
