Whether you choose a burial or cremation is completely your own choice; some people make this decision based on cost, others based on religious beliefs. Perhaps your decision is influenced by environmental considerations. Cremation The coffin or casket is brought into the crematorium by the pallbearers and placed onto a raised platform, called a catafalque, ready for the committal. The committal is the point when the coffin is removed from view at the end of the service, some choose to complete the committal by closing a curtain around the coffin.

Burial A burial service usually takes place directly following the main funeral service with mourners and the service leader gathered around the open grave, paying their final respects. After the coffin or casket is lowered into the ground, some of the mourners may scatter soil onto the coffin, others may choose to throw funeral flowers into the grave, whatever feels right.
